Singing in the Darkness Luke 12:24–26 (NASB95) 24 “Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap; they have no storeroom nor barn, and yet God feeds them; how much more valuable you are than the birds!” 25 “And which of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life’s span? 26 “If then you cannot do even a very little thing, why do you worry about other matters?” 6:19 a.m. INKY BLACK! I see nothing as I stumble towards the kitchen and the darkness in my soul suffocates me. “This is SO hopeless!” I gaze through the slider window, towards the woods and nothing is visible. No trees! No patio furniture! Nothing visible! But most certainly still in existence. The Spirit reminds me that they are just like the promises of God. We cannot always see those promises, but by faith we walk through the darkness, knowing they are true! Outside in the darkness, the birds are singing and declaring the goodness of God. They are in the shelter of the woods and being fed at the bird feeder. They rose early expecting the goodness of God. What a picture of confidence and hope in the darkness. Psalms 139:9-12 paints a picture of being alone in the dark and God’s answer to those feelings. Take a moment to look up those promises and personalize them by putting your name in the verse. Now, close your eyes and hear God speaking those very words to YOU! What is the Holy Spirit communicating to you? The birds outside your slider do not worry! God protects them; feeds them; cares for them. God says you are worth far more than birds. How much more you ask? You are worth the life and blood and body of Christ that was spent for you. He gave His life so you could have a life! Nothing is hopeless! The darkness is pierced by the Light that promises you are never alone. Cling to that when everything seems inky black and you too will be able to sing.
