The Government Rests Upon His Shoulders

Traditions, whether it be the holidays, fairs, vacations, birthday parties, or just meeting with friends, all serve an important role of connecting us.  Isolation is the birthplace of feeling alone and on our own.  With so many events canceled, we start to feel unanchored and emotionally adrift.  Fear can creep in and darken our perspective of ourselves or life.  We all process the cumulative disappointments differently.  Some turn to hyper-responsibility attempting to ward of the emotional undercurrents.  Others might retreat into many forms of escapism or choose to isolate more to avoid confrontation or seemingly impossible circumstances.

ISAIAH 9:6-7

For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders;

And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace.

Isaiah 9:6-7 is the message of Christmas hope that I share with my clients all year long.   Christ was “given to you”. You are not alone.  The government will rest on His shoulders—not yours. As the governor, He is not surprised or without a plan and provision for our times. Rather than being hyper-responsible, we can respond in faith and obedience knowing He is in control. He is our Wonderful Counselor.  Rather than escaping or isolating, talk to Him who sees you. As you stay in His word, He will reframe your thinking with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Remember He is the Mighty God who can carry and sort out every burden or injustice you entrust into His keeping.  Our Father is eternal.  He has the satellite view while ours is that of a telescope. He is always faithful to fulfill His will even when man is faithless. He will continue to do so.  As we grab ahold of the “child who was born unto us,” He becomes our Prince of Peace grafting our souls to the joy and peace that comes from above. Furthermore, as we continue to entrust our burdens into His keeping and heed His counsel, we will see an increase of His kingdom—an increase of peace in our lives.

We know that Christmas is not always a joyful time. Sometimes we are grieving the loss of loved ones or the loss of a family we never had.  Sometimes money or family gatherings are the source of more stress or woundedness. God sent His son to you in the likeness of sinful man so that He could sympathize with you.  So that you could go to Him and be comforted and encouraged by Him.  Christ “unto you” is the gift of Christmas.  Open the gift of His love and presence immediate and use liberally throughout the year.  We are here for you if you need someone to understand and connect you with Christ.
